MATTHEW FISCHER b. 1981, lives and works in New York. He studied painting with Gregory Amenoff and Dana Schutz at Columbia University School of the Arts where he earned an MFA in 2011. Fischer has shown his work in solo shows at Jack Tilton Gallery and Junior Projects, New York, and in two person shows at Louis B. James, formerly in New York and Couple’s Counseling in Brooklyn, NY. He has participated in various group shows including at Jack Hanley Gallery, 247365, Eddy’s Room and The Flag Art Foundation. He has been an artist in residence at The Lighthouse Works, on Fishers Island, NY and twice at The Edward F. Albee Foundation in Montauk, NY. Fischer currently teaches at SUNY New Paltz, the 92Y and the Creative Center at University Settlement. He recently participated in the first class of fellows in Shandaken Projects’ Paint School in 2018.
